My Blog

Welcome to My Blog
This blog is where I’ll share with you what I’m seeing in our yard, around our small lake, and when we travel—anything related to birds, wildlife, and plants. And also occasionally share with you what philosophical question is on my mind while I am outside watching the clouds drift by.  Or if something strikes me as really funny!

I’d love to hear from you as well – what you are observing and thinking.  Whether you have an observation or photo or have a question, please click on the button “Share Your Thoughts”.  I will answer your email – and always ask your permission before I post something you send or share your first name and the state in which you reside.

I post every Sunday evening.  Let’s enjoy nature together!

A Carolina Wren, response on the juvenile albino cardinal from last week’s blog, and me going waaaaay off topic……

All the […]

Why do birds open their mouths? It is so much more than just eating……

Two days ago, our heat index hit 115°F.  Miserable does not even begin to describe how awful it was outside.  When it is that hot and humid, birds become very quiet.  They sit in shady places – where they might catch a breeze or two – and occasionally pant.  Here are photos of birds who […]

Early migration ……. which makes me think about raptors……

    Rogue males

I have only ever heard the term ‘rogue male’ used in terms of raptors – particularly with Bald Eagles, and Ospreys.  The definition from the online Collins Dictionary (British) is any solitary male.  Other references add to this simple definition:  A solitary male who is acting in an unusual way that is different from the […]
