Our Dawn Chorus

Cleon and I have to get up early these days to spend time in the garden.  Neither of us are as tolerant of heat and humidity as we once were.  But this morning was simply beautiful.  Clear blue sky, only a slight breeze and at 7AM, it was 53ºF.  About 8AM, I spent some time sitting on our bench that overlooks the backyard.  I just sat and listened.  I want to share this with you.  Turn up your volume and click here:  Dawn Chorus

I am fairly good at IDing birds by their songs but not when so many are all singing at the same time.  I can pick out certain ones, but I can never name all of them.  That is where Merlin* helps me out.  Here is the list from Merlin of all the birds that are singing or calling on this video.  I did verify each one myself – it took time but what a wonderful way to spend a half an hour early in the morning.  Sitting on a bench on a beautiful late spring day and listening to all the birds!

Merlin’s list (not in any order) – and I agree!
