Welcome to your Public Forum! Please use it to tell all of us what birds you are seeing in your yard, your neighborhood, on your balcony or fire escape, or in your favorite park. Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. And remember, no question is too basic or simple – we all have to start somewhere.  If you are having trouble posting, have something to discuss with me, or have a question for me, please email me at lindahendricksspence@birdingbeyondthefieldguide.com.

Vermilion Flycatcher

This photo is from Mary M. in Huntington Beach, CA.  This male Vermilion Flycatcher was paired with a female and their active nest was close-by. I will rarely give locations of nests, but this nest is high in a tree and hard to see - the male is generally close-by and you will be able to see that flashy red.  These flycatchers are in Huntington Beach Central Park East in a eucalyptus tree near the Thomas Ridley bandstand.  The female chose her nest site well.  People can observe, but cannot get too close.  She and her young are safe from us.  If you are near this park, try to find time to watch - the male is an active, flashy bird and will be hard to miss.  I thank Mary for sending this to me - and she was thrilled to spend time watching these birds.  I just wish I could have been with her!  Linda
