Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. Second Saturday Regulars February Outing

We were able to get in about a half hour of birding before the rain came. This month we met up at Lincoln Park on Decatur’s west side of town. We were greeted by a yard full of robins as we entered the park. Other species of note included a golden-crowned kinglet, yellow-rumped warbler and a brown creeper. I drive by the lake to get home and near Ivy Park off of Fitzgerald Road on the east side of town I saw 2 eagles. They were standing on the ice very near the bank. Both appeared to be immature as they did not have white head feathers. Actually one was whiter than the other. They had just caught their breakfasts, fish in their talons when they took off. I echo Barry who also responded to this post - wow, Susan!  I just love Brown Creepers and it is so rare that I see one.  We havd had one in the winter on one of our big oak trees - from our window, I can see it climbing from the bottom to the top of the trunk in that distinctive way they have.  But sadly I have not seen one this year.  I will just have to live vicariously through you and your group of birders!  Linda

WAY Cool Susan!!!  I watch for eagles all of the time.... here on the edge of Clinton,  and whenever I am in Decatur  (or ANYWHERE for that matter, LOL).

Linda - I have a regular brown creeper on my tree near one of the suet feeders.   They are so small and so quick.... it's hard to get a picture of them.

And I thought that I had a picture - but pretty sure the attached 2 pics are a Carolina Wren... ?

I will try harder in the future and try to get a picture for you.                               bdp  2/12 <2pm

Barry, I agree with you - these photos are both Carolina Wrens.  But how great to see them still thriving on what looks like a very cold winter day!  Hope you get a photo of a Brown Creeper - I think they are hard to spot.  For me, they blend right in with the tree trunks on which they forage.  Good luck!  Linda
