Welcome to your Public Forum! Please use it to tell all of us what birds you are seeing in your yard, your neighborhood, on your balcony or fire escape, or in your favorite park. Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. And remember, no question is too basic or simple – we all have to start somewhere.  If you are having trouble posting, have something to discuss with me, or have a question for me, please email me at lindahendricksspence@birdingbeyondthefieldguide.com.

Day 17

Robin 2 is now sitting patiently on her nest almost every hour of the day.  She does take a break mid-morning for just a few minutes, and again, in the afternoon for a bit longer.  As you can see from the photo, she is at the corner of the house and this is a busy bird corner.  There are tall shrubs and then trees close-by.  She is also close to our large flower garden and the big birdbath, so she has birds whizzing right by her nest much of the day.  None of this seems to bother her one bit.  She just watches the other birds fly by - even the Blue Jays.  My guess is she is about 14 days away from hatching her eggs.

Robin 1 not only never returned to her nest, but we have not seen her in our yard at all.  Her breast was distinctive in that she had dark blotches where she could have removed a few her feathers to line her nest.  Her facial markings were also a bit different in that there was more white.  It could be that she moved to another place in our neighborhood.  I hope that is what happened and not that something happened to her or her mate.
