Welcome to your Public Forum! Please use it to tell all of us what birds you are seeing in your yard, your neighborhood, on your balcony or fire escape, or in your favorite park. Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. And remember, no question is too basic or simple – we all have to start somewhere.  If you are having trouble posting, have something to discuss with me, or have a question for me, please email me at lindahendricksspence@birdingbeyondthefieldguide.com.

Carolina Wren

We have been concerned about the wrens in this frigid weather too.  They are eating from both the feeders and the suet and they come at dawn and throughout the day.  So far, so good.

That is great news!  I hope they continue to use your feeders.  We had a high of -4 yesterday with 10mph winds.  No sign of these wrens at our feeders and we have not heard or seen them in about a week.  We are not sure if they are still with us or not.  All of us in the northern states are having such frigid weather.  Birds like the Carolina Wren that are pushing their ranges north over the past 20 years or so could be in trouble.  If any of you reading this have any news of wintering birds in your area, please let us all know.  Linda

Hi - I HADN'T seen any Carolinas at my feeder this winter - until I saw one today!   So, at least that one made it through the worst of our coldest days.  MUCH warmer for the foreseeable future.  :0)    Barry    1/27/25  4+pm
