A Mystical Ornithology by Jeremy Seifert and Benjamin Roberts…………….South Carolina
This 12-minute film was sent to me by Trish R. from California. I have placed it in Essays and Poems because it is both. A beautiful essay with poetic elegance about one man in nature. Observing birds. This is a quote: “Immersed in the songs of blue jays, yellow-throated warblers, and red-shouldered hawks on his forty-six acre farm in rural South Carolina, acclaimed poet and ornithologist J. Drew Lanham exchanges calls with the birds that stop over his home during their seasonal migrations. For Drew, these creatures are gods, transcendent beings who summon a response of reverence. Reverberating with sound, music, light, and ethereal cinematic expression, this film weaves a kinetic texture for the senses and invites you into a poetic evocation of the paradox of love and grief within the changing nature of the seasons.”
I love this film. I cannot adequately describe how I feel as I watch, but I can tell you this. When I am finished – and I have watched it several times – I am eternally grateful to Jeremy Seifert, Benjamin Roberts, and J. Drew Lanham. I am sharing this link with you from Emergence Magazine.
