Welcome to your Public Forum! Please use it to tell all of us what birds you are seeing in your yard, your neighborhood, on your balcony or fire escape, or in your favorite park. Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. And remember, no question is too basic or simple – we all have to start somewhere.  If you are having trouble posting, have something to discuss with me, or have a question for me, please email me at lindahendricksspence@birdingbeyondthefieldguide.com.

Bright Northern Cardinals

I thought on this cold snowy illinois day it would be a nice reminder as to how snow can be a great enhancement to bird watching. Birds tend to stand out more in a white snow covered background especially if they have some distinguishing colors such as the Northern Cardinal or other birds like the Blue Jay. Take the time and instead of watching TV watch the snow fall along with your bird feeder(s), because you never know what you might see.

Miles, what lovely photos!  And I absolutely agree - snow is the perfect backdrop to watch birds - most especially cardinals.  And you have read my mind.  One of my New Year's resolutions is less TV, more time either outside or just sitting and looking out the window.  We all need more time to dream, right?  Linda
