Revamping the website – new additions!

Cleon will tell you that I am one of those people who just cannot leave well enough alone.  And he would be right.  It always seems to me that with just a bit of reorganization, something would be so much better!  And so once again, I have shuffled things around, reorganized a bit, and added.  These changes have already begun, but you will see more things happen in the next about six weeks or so.  I hope you like what I have done.  My main objective is always to make information more accessible and for the website to be easier to use.  Look at the website menu and click on each heading to see and access these additions and changes:

Everything Bird!
There is now one less step to access the articles under Living with Birds as Neighbors, and I added the article for strategies to get a hummingbird out of your shed or garage:

  • Birds are Nesting in Our Shed or Garage
  • Birds are Pecking at My Windows – or Anything Reflective – and Driving Me Crazy!
  • Discouraging Black Birds
  • How to Get a Hummingbird Out of Your Garage or Shed
  • Woodpeckers are Banging Away on My House!  Help!

Help Identifying Birds:  I added these two articles:

  • What is pishing?

All Other Topics:  I added:

Fall and winter are wonderful times to dream about, and plan, what you will add to your gardens or yard.  There is just no better way to spend time on a cold wintery afternoon or evening than cuddled up in your favorite chair and browsing catalogues or online.  With this in mind, I have started to add articles on specific plant species.  I will write and add more as the weeks go by.  Every species will help to attract wildlife to your yard – most especially hummingbirds, finches, juncos, and sparrows; butterflies and moths; and beneficial insects who often prey on insects that are not beneficial.  When you have a yard or garden filled with trees, shrubs, and flowers, wildlife will live right alongside of you – most you will never see unless you really look.  Animals like caterpillars, toads, and box turtles.  It is a great feeling when you know you are providing a balanced environment for all creatures.  And what a bonus for you – look out your windows and you will see a different view from each.  Sit on your porch, deck or patio, and just breathe in the wonderful fresh air.  Sit quietly and notice what you are hearing.  Crickets, locusts, birds singing and calling.  Bees buzzing.  And if it sounds like an extra loud bee, it could be a hummingbird very close to you.  Take a look at these articles and dream about how you want your yard or garden to look – to yourself and all who visit you.  And if you have questions, just ask!  I love talking birds and gardens!

Landscaping and Gardening for Birds and All Wildlife:  I will be adding more articles on specific species as the weeks go by:

  • Butterfly Weed
  • Eastern Prickly Pear Cactus
  • Hoary Vervain
  • Purple Coneflower
  • Rattlesnake Master
  • Blue Mist Shrub
