Welcome to your Public Forum! Please use it to tell all of us what birds you are seeing in your yard, your neighborhood, on your balcony or fire escape, or in your favorite park. Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. And remember, no question is too basic or simple – we all have to start somewhere.

Pelicans and Cormorants

I drove past the large lake close to where Linda and I live and the White Pelicans have arrived.  When they are in a large, close group like this, I think it is called a raft.  This lake has a silt dam which you can see in the second photo.  This time of year, on sunny days,  it is always filled with Double-crested Cormorants and Ring-billed Gulls - all enjoying the sunshine and I am guessing socializing.  These are both great sights to see as I drive along.  Cleon

Hi Everyone!  I live in a small town on an island off the coast of North Carolina and we have a very friendly Brown Pelican who lives on our pier.  Everyone here knows him - his name is Pete.  Sort of our area Good Will Ambassador!  He seems to love to pose for anyone who has a camera pointed sat him!
