Welcome to your Public Forum! Please use it to tell all of us what birds you are seeing in your yard, your neighborhood, on your balcony or fire escape, or in your favorite park. Tell us about any wildlife refuges you are visiting. And the birds you are seeing – what are they doing? Are they singing, nest-building, flying, foraging, sitting still and resting? Are they interacting with those of their own species or with others? Are they by themselves? In a flock? Ask questions and learn more about topics that are important to you. And remember, no question is too basic or simple – we all have to start somewhere.

Birding with children and grandchildren ......

If you read my blog of 9/18, you know Cleon and I spent a wonderful weekend with his daughter and her family - 2 grandchildren ages 11 and 4.  And it is not always easy to get them away from games on cell phones.  But we did spend a good afternoon at a state park walking through the woods.  What have been your experiences with children?  Your successes and frustrations?  Any tips as to how to capture and keep their interest?  And how important is all this?  As a society, we seem to be getting more and more away from quiet times in nature.  Many are now using nature for extreme sports rather than to quiet their jangled thoughts.  What is important?

What are your thoughts?  Linda
